Creative Full Moon Release Ritual

The full moon is a time of culmination and illumination. It shines a light on what’s no longer serving us, making it the perfect opportunity to let go, restore, and renew. This ritual blends intention, release, and a touch of creativity to help you let go and realign.

What You’ll Need:

  • A candle (white or any color that feels clearing to you)

  • A pen and two pieces of paper

  • Optional: soft music, crystals, herbal tea, essential oils

  • A bowl of water or a safe place to burn paper

  • A few colored pencils, crayons, or markers (optional)

The Ritual: Draw it Out. Let it Go.

1. Ground & Breathe (5 min)

Light your candle and take a few deep breaths. Sit quietly and ask yourself:

  • What feels heavy or limiting lately?

  • What thoughts, patterns, stories or fears am I feeling called to release?

  • Where do I feel creatively or emotionally blocked?

  • Where in my life am I ready to expand or trust more deeply?

2. Write & Release (10 min)

On your first piece of paper, free-write everything you're ready to let go of: habits, emotions, beliefs, dynamics—whatever has run its course. Be open, honest and unfiltered.

3. Creative Clearing (10 min)

On the second piece of paper, draw or doodle an abstract expression of what those things feel like. This isn’t about creative skills—it’s about energy and intention. Use colour and shape to represent how the blocks feel in your body or mind.

4. Burn or Tear (5 min)

Now, either:

  • Burn both pages safely (in a fire-safe container), OR

  • Rip them up and place them in a bowl of water. As you do, say aloud or whisper:

“I release what no longer serves me. I trust that space is being made for clarity, creativity, and ease.”

5. Close with Gratitude (3 min)

Thank yourself for showing up. Blow out your candle. You might journal briefly on:

  • What inner truth feels clearer now

  • What you're calling in now that there's space

  • How your body or energy feels after the release

  • What you are ready to believe about yourself going forward

Optional Add-On:

If you’d like to keep the creative momentum going, try making a mini collage, painting, or any other creative expression later in the week that reflects what you’re inviting in.

When to Do This Ritual

While rituals are extra potent when done as near to the full moon as possible, any time in the week leading up to the full moon also works.

Eco-Friendly Disposal Tips

Dispose of your soaked or burnt paper in a respectful, earth-conscious way:

  • Nature Release: Pour the water and paper pulp/remnants into soil. Let the Earth compost your release into something new.

  • Compost It: If you used plain paper and non-toxic ink or pigments, add the paper bits to your compost bin (ensuring it is completely cooled if you opted to burn it).
